3 offensive-minded players Knicks could pick at No. 11 in 2022 NBA Draft
1: Bennedict Mathurin, Guard, Arizona
One of the best shooters in the entire 2022 draft class, Bennedict Mathurin could drop to the Knicks if other teams in the top ten decide to focus on filling other positions, such as center. If that happens, Leon Rose should announce his intention to select the 19-year-old (soon to be 20) in a matter of seconds.
Mathurin is an expert scorer who averaged 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this past season on 45-37-76 shooting splits. He has the finely-tuned form to connect on deep threes as well as the athleticism to throw down powerful dunks.
He’s efficient in catch-and-shoot opportunities and also has a smooth pull-up game, which allows him to leverage his shooting threat to create better driving lanes to attack off the dribble.
Mathurin projects as the ideal wing partner for RJ Barrett, as his shooting prowess should complement Barrett’s slashing game perfectly.
While nearly any rookie picked at 11 would likely come off the bench, it isn’t difficult to imagine the former college sophomore securing a spot in the starting lineup within the first few months of next season.
He still has some room to grow as a passer and sometimes takes too many risks, but the scoring upside that Mathurin has should make him a no-brainer pick for New York if he’s still available when the team’s on the clock.
