Speaking of culture, there isn’t a player that contributed more to last season’s camaraderie than Theo Pinson. His energy on the sidelines was noticeable in every game, and clearly had an effect on his teammates’ morale.

In the same way that Randle’s outbursts at referees and opposing players often left this past year’s team feeling disjointed on the court, Pinson’s constant support and presence on the sidelines helped spur 2021’s surprise fourth-seed appearance as well as the “Big 15” motto.

It’s no surprise that nearly all of last season’s most memorable moments featured Pinson, despite only appearing in 17 games.

It’s also not a coincidence that the Dallas Mavericks went 38-15 after picking him up on December 20th, including their first playoff series win in over a decade.

While Pinson obviously isn’t directly responsible for all of their wins from the sidelines, it’s still clear to see that a positive environment can help lead to a cohesive team both on and off the court.

He was also a member of the Brooklyn Nets during their surprise 2018-19 playoff appearance led by D’Angelo Russell.

The Knicks’ 15th man often changed this season whether it was Wayne Selden Jr., Ryan Aridiacono, or Feron Hunt. While none of them played terribly, they didn’t match the same energy that Pinson brought last season.

Bringing him back on a small deal in free agency could pay major dividends, even if he never steps foot on the court next year.
