Knicks fans should root for this hilarious outcome to happen to Nets

The New York Knicks might not be in the playoffs, but at least fans have gotten to enjoy watching the Celtics take a two-game lead over the Nets in the first round of the playoffs.

Kyrie Irving scored 39 points in Game 1, but he followed that up with a 10-point performance in Game 2. Kevin Durant has met his kryptonite in Boston’s defense because he’s been relatively nonexistent in both losses for Brooklyn, shooting a combined 13-of-41 from the field.

It was just a few summers ago that Knicks fans were hoping that their team would sign both Durant and Irving in free agency, but the two decided to join the Nets instead. The past is in the past, but with that being said, it’s been entertaining to watch Brooklyn derail this season.

The Nets and Celtics will play at Barclays Center on Saturday and Monday. If Boston wins both games, Brooklyn’s year will end with a devastating (otherwise known as hilarious) sweep.

Knicks fans need to cheer for the Celtics to sweep the Nets in the playoffs

As a New York fan, it might feel odd to actively root for Boston, but it’s about choosing the lesser of the two evils.

Even if a sweep doesn’t happen, the Celtics should be aiming to go up 3-0 because no team in the history of the NBA has come back from that deficit. If Boston loses on Saturday and wins on Monday, the Celtics will hold a 3-1 lead over the Nets, but we’ve seen that deficit be overcome before.

On Friday, Boston got a huge boost when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Celtics center Robert Williams would be playing in “limited minutes” in Game 3. The big man underwent meniscus surgery on Mar. 22.

Williams’ role won’t be what it was before he got injured, but the fact that Boston was able to win two games in his absence is huge.

Brooklyn’s Ben Simmons is expected to make his return on Monday, but he hasn’t played in a game in nearly an entire year. If the Celtics win Game 3 and Simmons returns in Game 4 for his debut to end in a series sweep, that’d be classic.

Knicks fans need to keep their fingers crossed and place their Boston biases to the side for the time being. A team full of All-Stars might not end up being such a good idea after all, huh?
