1: A new head coach

Ah, the No. 1 thing that fans want to see happen this summer. Randle being traded and Thibodeau leaving could be tied for first place in this list, but it feels like Thibodeau holds a bit more importance.

Similar to Randle, Thibodeau went from being the NBA’s Coach of the Year to being someone that Knicks fans now despise.

Why? It’s hard to pinpoint a single reason, but it could have to do with the head coach’s stubbornness to give the younger players more playing time. Yes, New York’s roster altogether is relatively young, but this is in reference to players like Obi Toppin, Quickley, and McBride.

Thibodeau was given a challenging task after Derrick Rose went down with an injured ankle last December, but he completely botched it by refusing to accept the fact that Alec Burks isn’t meant to be a starting point guard.

Are the New York Knicks going to part ways with Tom Thibodeau?

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, Thibodeau is expected to be back in charge next season, but there are also reportedly people within the Knicks organization who aren’t in support of the coach.

It seems harsh to give Thibodeau the boot two years in, especially after the success that he experienced last year, but it’s not a good fit. New York has ample young talent and Thibodeau doesn’t seem to properly know how to use it to the team’s advantage.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, though, but the 2021-22 Knicks season has been full of dead grass. If Thibodeau does stay, the front office needs to sit down with him and be firm about the direction that the organization needs to head in. Spoiler alert, it needs to go in the opposite direction of this year.
