The ugly: The contract

The high price tag should cause the Knicks’ front office to pause. However, Fultz’s unusually large contract should be the nail in the coffin.

Fultz is slated to make $16.5 million this season. This is also the case for the 2022-2023 season before it raises to $17 million for the 2023-2024 campaign.

This is a massive contract for a player of Fultz’s current level of production. While the 23-year-old could still take leaps in his development, a trade would force New York to bet a considerable amount of its cap space.

The former Washington Huskies superstar also struggled with the big stage during his first stint with the Sixers, only settling in when he was traded to the smaller market Magic.

Would a move to the league’s biggest city be best for Fultz as he attempts to recapture his lost potential? History certainly indicates that there are red flags.

This Bleacher Report article hits the need for a Walker trade on the head and it’s also wise in targeting a young point guard. However, the inconsistency, contract, and big market concerns surrounding Fultz should cause the Knicks to steer clear of this mock trade.

New York should only consider this type of deal if draft capital is included, or if Orlando is willing to assume a considerable portion of the guard’s remaining salary.

What do you think about this potential Fultz trade? Is he the point guard that Knicks fans have been yearning for?
