This season for the New York Knicks has been pretty horrible. After shocking the world by finishing as the fourth seed last year, the Knicks are sitting at 12th in the Eastern Conference during the all-star break.
This season has been the definition of Murphy’s Law for the Knicks: Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Julius Randle cannot seem to match last year’s play, even though he has been tremendous recently. It also does not help that Tom Thibodeau went from the Coach of the Year to now being on the hot seat. Also, with Derrick Rose hurt, the point guard situation is a disaster.
The Knicks went from exciting to watch to me feeling sick every time I watch this team play almost overnight. I think every one of us can agree that this all-star break has been a nice break from this life-sentence of misery that the Knicks cause.
The Knicks being a major bummer is nothing new. Outside of last year, it’s what I’ve experienced every year as a Knicks fan since I was 11 years old.
I loaded up Tankathon.com yesterday, and in my head, I swear I heard “Hello Darkness My Old Friend” as I simulated the draft lottery until the Knicks got a top pick just to feel something again. Okay, but seriously, I love Tankathon, but I don’t want to see my Knicks on it anymore!
Max LoSardo is correct in saying things could be much worse. There was a time the Knicks were 17-65, and we trotted out a lineup of Langston Galloway, Alexy Shved, Tim Hardaway Jr, Lou Audmondson, and Cole Aldrich. Then there was the time the Knicks were 17-65, and we had a lineup of Dennis Smith Jr, Damyean Dotson, Kevin Knox, Luke Kornet, and a very raw Mitchell Robinson.
Look, Knicks fans, I agree, this season has epitomized the “Oh no, we suck again!” meme. However, there are some things to look forward to in the second half of this season. Knicks fans, this is not a complete season of Darkness. This is not the same as other bad seasons, and here’s why:
