New York Knicks: The key to balancing Julius Randle and Obi Toppin
By Adam Kester
The New York Knicks have had quite a myriad of issues this season and a lot of it has had to do with the roster they’ve assembled.
It’s been a constant struggle of a team wrestling with itself. Players getting hot and cold, questionable rotations, trading for a young player (Cam Reddish) who barely gets any minutes — the lack of cohesion has been killing this team.
Perhaps no issue has gotten more attention than the Julius Randle/Obi Toppin dilemma.
New York Knicks: What to do with Julius Randle and Obi Toppin
This is a tough situation to be in.
The leader of the team, who just got paid and plays a big role on the team, has been struggling.
The team’s lottery pick from 2 years ago, who has one of the most exciting, showtime games of any young player in the league, isn’t getting enough minutes.
And they play the same position.
If these two were guards or wings, getting them on the court at the same time wouldn’t be much of an issue.
But the reality of both of their games is that, although their games are so different, they really both need to spend most of their time at the 4 to succeed.
Perhaps Tom Thibodeau should slightly decrease Randle’s minutes while increasing Obi Toppin’s.
