Should the NY Knicks trade for Goran Dragic?

I don’t hate the idea of Goran Dragic as a temporary stop-gap Point Guard for the Knicks, but the alleged reason why he’s not playing in Toronto is that they are a young team and Dragic would much rather compete for a title.

He’s been away from the organization since November 13th while tending to a ‘personal matter’ while the front office combs the league for trade partners.

There’s some speculation that Dragic would like to play alongside his fellow countryman Luka Doncic if he’s bought out of his contract, but I’m sure the Raptors would rather try to facilitate a trade before doing so.

"Dragic could be a far more affordable option, as the 35-year-old is currently away from the Raptors awaiting a trade or buyout. He should be well-rested after appearing in just five games this season and would give the Knicks a solid scorer and playmaker in the backcourt."

Dragic’s roughly $19 million contract would be difficult to facilitate a trade for, especially considering that he’d be a one-year rental.

Perhaps if the Knicks could swindle a protected first-rounder out of the deal I’d consider something like the trade above.

But without it, I’d pass for sure.

There are 3 reasons why this trade works; the money makes sense, it upgrades the Point Guard spot (ouch), and it frees up a spot for Cam Reddish to get into the rotation.

But the Knicks lose this deal even with a first-round pick involved I think.

As much as I would like Dragic on the Knicks, there aren’t a lot of realistic ways to get the deal done.
