What exactly do the New York Knicks have in Evan Fournier?
By Adam Kester
As the New York Knicks continue to fight their way back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture, they’re still trying to work out the team chemistry on their roster.
This isn’t to cap New York’s ceiling for the playoffs or the long-term future, but as it stands right now, this team seems to be one of the “emerging” teams in the East — a younger team with playoff aspirations, trying to balance winning basketball and development.
The team’s signing of Evan Fournier this offseason was supposed to ignite a clear and painless step forward in the franchise’s direction, however, things haven’t gone quite according to plan.
New York Knicks: Where does Evan Fournier stand?
It’s been mostly a disappointment for Evan Fournier thus far in his Knicks career.
There have been some fantastic highs and some very abysmal lows.
Even with all of the dramatic calls to blow up the team by some fans, it’s hard to believe that Fournier is going anywhere in a trade anytime soon. Just a few months after signing, the underperforming to expectations, (although his last few weeks of play have been better) contract, and the current state of the team makes it hard to see him them trading him.
Not only from the Knicks side — it’s just hard to see how he gets involved in a deal because another team actively wants him.
So let’s look at the reality of the situation.
Now that we have a large sample size of Fournier on the court as part of the New York Knicks, what exactly is the type of player that they have? What is his value?
Let’s look at his game and compare him to other players around the league.
