Should the NY Knicks trade for Jalen Brunson?
Originally, this page was meant for Myles Turner but in some recent rumors, it has been suggested that the Pacers are looking for two first-rounders in exchange for Turner.
Because the Knicks are over the cap, it would cost them those two firsts and matching salaries…so something like Burks, Noel, and two firsts.
Not gonna happen if I’m GM and it certainly isn’t gonna happen as long as Leon Rose is running the show.
So I decided to pivot and consider my original #2 option here, Jalen Brunson.
Recent reports out of The NY Post suggest that the Knicks have not only done their due diligence on Brunson but also want him “BAD”.
And for good reason.
Aside from the plethora of ties he has to the current Knicks’ front office and coaching staff, Brunson is also having the best season of his career.
He’s averaging 16 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game this year while shooting 51% from the field and 34% from deep.
The only reason his minutes are up so much from seasons prior is that the Mavs have been forced to start him due to injuries and players in and out of health and safety protocols.
It’s safe to say that he’s outplayed what the Mavs are going to be able to pay him on an extension and have yet to even explore the topic publicly.
There are reports that he’s seeking something in the realm of 4-years, $80 million on his next contract.
I’m not saying the Knicks should pay him that kind of money either but he has a reason to take a little bit of a discount from them as opposed to literally any other organization in the league.
Leon Rose is like an uncle figure to Brunson. I have a feeling the Mavs will take what they can get from the Knicks instead of losing him for nothing.
