New York Knicks who could shine in 2022 — Obi Toppin

How many times have we all written about this?

It’s gone from some irrational fan expectations last season to desperate pleas for more playing time this season because, wow, has Obi Toppin looked special this year.

It seems that instead of pressing and trying to be the perfect Tom Thibodeau player, Obi Toppin has just cleared his mind and started playing to his strengths.

There are just not many players like him. There are not many players in the world who have his combination of size, speed, and athleticism, and he uses those attributes every time he’s on the court.

The only thing stopping Toppin from getting more playing time is the preseason notions of what Tom Thibodeau likes to do with his lineup and how the Knicks frontcourt should operate.

Instead of being tied down solely to the power forward position, just get Obi Toppin on the court as much as possible.

It doesn’t matter who is playing alongside or who the opponents are, the Knicks are better by almost every metric possible when he’s on the court.

We’ve seen Taj Gibson and Mitchell Robinson on the court together lately. Why not Obi Toppin with literally anyone.

Every time Obi Toppin is on the court, he is making defenses stress and he is making life easier for his teammates. Given all of the weird lineup combinations as of late, I think we’re going to see Obi Toppin thrown in at power forward, center and at small forward even much more than he was before.
