Should the NY Knicks trade for Torrey Craig?

Torrey Craig has always been an intriguing player and one I’ve wanted the Knicks to take a look at.

An undrafted player from the 2014 NBA Draft, he bounced around the international circuits until 2017 where he was given a chance by the Nuggets.

While he’s yet to solidify a distinct role in the NBA, there’s a reason why playoff contenders are interested in his services.

He spent last season with both of the teams that made it to the finals, the Suns and Bucks.

It’s his versatility and scrappiness on both sides of the ball that will keep him in the league for the foreseeable future.

His ability to guard any position 1 through 4 alongside his 3-point shooting would make him a terrific fit for a Knicks team that puts a premium on versatile wings that can ‘do it all’.

In this deal, New York sends Kevin Knox to Indiana in exchange for Torrey Craig and a future 2nd round pick.

The deal actually clears up close to $1 million off of the Knicks’ cap and they receive a second-rounder for absorbing Craig’s salary for next year.

As much as I would love to see Thibs start to feature Quentin Grimes in a more prominent role sooner than later, if he plans on sticking it out the rest of the season with Alec Burks as the ‘starting point guard’, then having a player like Torrey Craig receive minutes as a backup wing would probably be the wiser decision if the team still has playoff hopes.

Craig just has the real-world experience that Grimes doesn’t…yet.

I think grabbing Craig in a trade for Myles Turner could be something the Knicks look to do as well, seeing how they’re gonna have to give up some valuable assets in the swap anyway.

Might as well try to bring back as much talent as possible.
