The NBA’s 5 Greatest individual performances at Madison Square Garden
By Adam Kester
#1: Carmelo Anthony breaks the Madison Square Garden record
One of his signature games as a New York Knick, it’s only right that Carmelo Anthony holds the record for most points at Madison Square Garden.
Just five years after Kobe Bryant broke Bernard King’s record by one point, Carmelo Anthony broke Kobe’s record by one point when he scored 62 against the Charlotte Bobcats on January 25th, 2014.
You really have to watch this game to understand just how unreal it was.
It was one of the greatest scorers of all-time playing a flawless game. Carmelo had zero turnovers in this game, the only 60-point, zero turnover game in NBA history.
It gets crazier.
Carmelo scored 10 points from free throws. He scored 6 points from layups. 6!
The other 44 points were all from jump shots. Maybe the smoothest shooting form of his era, Carmelo Anthony’s ability to get his own buckets was unmatched.
You want the last bit of crazy info from this game? Carmelo was pulled with 8 minutes left in the game. The Knicks were on the verge of winning and didn’t need to keep playing their star player after he got the record.
Carmelo Anthony could have easily scored 70+ in this game.
It was one of the greatest individual performances in both Knicks and NBA history and it was the greatest scoring outburst of all-time at Madison Square Garden.
