3 Starting lineup changes the New York Knicks should consider
3 changes that can help the New York Knicks break out of their slump
After back-to-back losses to the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors, the New York Knicks have fallen to a 12-14 record so far this season.
With upcoming games against the reigning champion Milwaukee Bucks and the league-leading Golden State Warriors, there’s a fair chance that the team could end up 4 games below .500 next week.
This has been an unacceptable start for a team that was expected to be a playoff contender but is now sitting with the 12th best record in the Eastern Conference.
This isn’t to say that their season is over, as they’re only 2.5 games back of the sixth seed with 56 games left to play. They have time to right the ship, but they’ll need to make a major change or two in order to do so.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau has been operating with an unexpected sense of urgency this year and has already made multiple changes to the starting lineup. He removed starting point guard Kemba Walker from the rotation entirely, then benched Mitchell Robinson in favor of Nerlens Noel for the top center spot.
The Knicks’ current starting lineup of Alec Burks, Evan Fournier, RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Nerlens Noel has not worked as intended. This lineup is getting outscored by 13.3 points per 100 possessions, one of the worst marks of any 5-man group on the team. New York is just 2-5 since benching Walker and 1-2 since benching Robinson.
Here are 3 potential changes to the starting lineup that could help the Knicks turn things around and allow them to start climbing back into the playoff picture.
