New York Knicks: The Pros and cons of a Myles Turner trade
By Adam Kester
Con #2: Does he address the New York Knicks needs?
I’m not so sure that when you’re watching New York Knicks games, your first thought is “they could use a player like Myles Turner”.
New York’s struggles have been all over the map. Spotty perimeter defense, inconsistent shooting, lack of ball movement — it feels as though every other game there is a different issue.
So while Turner may be upgrading the roster on paper, I’m not exactly sure how much better he makes this team. He would give them a big man who can actually shoot, which is something they do not have on this roster.
Except shooting and floor spacing are not issues for the New York Knicks. They currently rank 7th in the NBA in 3-point percentage and rank near the top in attempts as well.
They have a long list of players on the roster who are capable of shooting.
Right now, this team needs more playmaking and perimeter defense.
So in giving up assets for Myles Turner, how much better are the New York Knicks? I really don’t know if it’s that much of an upgrade.
Look at the Pacers and Knicks starting lineups:
Burks – Barrett – Fournier – Randle – Robinson
Brogdon – LeVert – Durate – Sabonis – Turner
Are we sure the Knicks starting lineup is even better than the Pacers?
At the end of the day, of course, the New York Knicks roster is improved with Myles Turner on it, I’m just not so sure it propels them into some new upper echelon in the Eastern Conference.
I get that people want to see some moves being made if the team continues to struggle, but pressing the panic button and forcing a trade just for the sake of forcing a trade doesn’t feel right.
