New York Knicks: They have assets to trade

No one wants to see anyone on this team leave.

On paper, this is a roster that is supposed to be pushing for a 2nd round playoff appearance. It’s a close-knit group with talent from top to bottom.

It’s still the early stages of the season and for now, there aren’t many “disgruntled star” scenarios to write about. It’s hard to imagine any popping up by the trade deadline — the Bradley Beals and Zach LaVines of the league seem to be in nice situations.

Whether or not a “star” becomes available doesn’t matter, there’s always room to upgrade.

The Derrick Rose trade last season still feels underrated to this day.

People forget that the New York Knicks were not the same team before the Rose trade. Their offense was struggling and they were hovering around .500. That trade was the perfect fit and filled a need.

The Knicks are more prepared for a trade than most teams. They don’t need to overhaul the team or move a significant piece of the current rotation to get a starting-caliber player.

Just for hypotheticals sake — young pieces like Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes, and Miles McBride could all be central pieces in a trade. The team has multiple future first-round picks.

We’re not at that part of the season yet, but if the team needs an upgrade, they don’t have to break the bank to get one.
