NY Knicks: Jericho Sims’ potential

The potential of rookie second round pick Jericho Sims is another reason why trading Robinson would be ideal. In his first NBA action, in the summer league, Sims turned heads and showed an incredible amount of potential.

In the summer league, Sims averaged 8.2 points per game to go with 8.2 rebounds per game and 1 block per game while shooting an astounding 81% from the field per Real GM. Sims showed strong efficiency throughout the entire summer league while also making incredible athletic plays.
Averaging near a double-double with elite shooting percentages in the paint shows that he could essentially be a more athletic and healthier Mitchell Robinson. Similar to Robinson, on the offensive side of the ball, Sims thrives on alley oops and second chance points in the paint.

While the summer league is a very small sample size, Sims made the most of the opportunities he was given which should earn him a shot at a spot in the rotation.

With Nerlens Noel having the backup center position locked up and Taj Gibson’s role with his longtime head coach secured, that leaves the only way to get Sims the playing time he deserves is trading Robinson.

With Robinson constantly missing games and not being able to develop a rhythm or his inconsistent play while on the court, he has been given way too many chances and the more the NY Knicks wait the more his trade value plummets.

Trading him before it’s too late and maximizing the return for the potential star is in the best interest of the team not only for the short term but in the long run as well.
