3 Reasons to believe in the New York Knicks 3-point success
By James Ryder
The New York Knicks’ talent is a major advantage
I probably don’t need to tell you this, but the Knicks are extremely talented.
On the surface that seems like an obvious statement. But, I think it is important to mention because when you break down what skills each player possesses it allows us to answer the question at hand: Can the Knicks keep up the elite three-point shooting?
The team has plenty of players that excel offensively. Many of them are very good isolation scorers and spot up shooters. Some of them are better suited to work off-ball in the flow of the offense. And some of them have the ability to take their offensive games to the next level at any given moment.
That final area is one the Knicks are particularly rich in. Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, Kemba Walker, Evan Fournier, Derrick Rose, and even Alec Burks are like dynamite the way they can just explode and carry an offense.
Another area the Knicks are gifted in is playmaking. While the team doesn’t have any “true” playmakers, or any player that is elite in that department, they still have a ton of guys that have varying capabilities as passers and initiators. Each of those players I listed that can carry an offense as a scorer are more than competent playmakers too. Even Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin have shown good passing IQ’s.
All of this is to say that the major advantage New York has over most teams on offense is versatility. The teams three point shooting and overall offense has been so stellar because there are a multitude of players that are contributing on that side of the ball in every game.
If the Knicks can continue to effectively execute the offensive system in place, then they will remain a positive team on offense, even if they they fall out of being a top 5 offense. There is too much firepower on this team for New York to struggle on that end.
The more guys a basketball team has that can draw attention from the defense, the more scoring opportunities will present themselves. The personnel on the Knicks are very capable of making the right play, which boosts the likelihood of quality, efficient looks from the floor.
The New York Knicks shooting so far is not a fluke. The talent, sample size, and untapped potential is all there to suggest more long range success is to come.
