Should the NY Knicks consider a trade for Marvin Bagley III?

Whether Marvin Bagley III gets traded or not is no longer a question of ‘if’, but ‘when’.

The Kings are doing their usual ‘start the season off looking like an actual NBA team before falling off 25% through the season’ routine and have since benched Bagley.

The former Duke Blue Devil is still just 22-years-old and similar to Kevin Knox, can really take advantage and benefit from a change of scenery.

The Kings will forever go down in history as the organization who passed up on Luka Doncic for a guy they literally won’t even play for the rest of this season.

Bagley is a 6-foot-11 stretch big-man who would offer the Knicks much more offensive upside than pretty much any of the C’s on the roster today, so it could prove to be a nice change of pace if he were to rotate with Nerlens Noel and sometimes Taj Gibson.

The Knicks are sending over another reclamation project in Kevin Knox who was also from that same 2018 NBA Draft alongside Mitchell Robinson in exchange for Bagley and a future 2024 unprotected first-rounder.

The thought process here is essentially that if the Knicks and Mitch can’t come to terms on a new agreement, let someone else pay him.

Bagley’s trade value could not be any lower than it is today so the Kings would have to attach a future 1st to get off of his contract.

The Knicks don’t give up too much here so in case Bagley also asks for far too much money, at least the Knicks get a consolation prize of that future first.

But if they can re-sign him to a fair deal, under a new system with one of the best coaching and developmental staffs in the league, perhaps Bagley can have a bit of a renaissance with New York.

Verdict: I’d really only consider this if Mitch and the Knicks were just far too much apart on the dollars and cents. I like the idea but the Knicks take a massive step down from Mitch to Marvin.
