The Definitive New York Knicks Roster Breakdown: The Backcourt

New York Knicks Backcourt: Miles McBride
Finally, there’s the other rookie, Miles McBride.
Yet another player who seems to be a match made in heaven with Tom Thibodeau’s culture.
What We Know
Deuce McBride is a legit point guard prospect. Intense player. Has playmaking chops, a beautiful shooting stroke, and is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA Draft.
There’s no doubt in my mind that McBride can be an NBA-level, 2-way guard. The question is really how high his ceiling is, and how he is going to find his way to success on this deep New York Knicks rotation.
What To Expect
McBride is at the bottom of New York’s point guard depth chart, but if there’s one thing that will get him into the lineup, it’s his defense.
McBride may already be the best defending guard on this team. He’s that good.
We saw him pick up opposing point guards in the full court and lock them up during the Summer League.
Just like some of the other players at the bottom of the bench, it’s going to be hard for McBride to find consistent playing time.
Still, like Quentin Grimes, McBride’s strengths are some of the most important attributes to have for a young player trying to find time on the floor: defense and shooting.
It may not be McBride’s time right now, but who knows. If there’s a point guard who’s giving the Knicks fits, maybe Tom Thibodeau elects to give Deuce a chance to prove himself by guarding him.
