New York Knicks: Average at least 25 assists per game

In 2021, the Knicks ranked second to last with just 21.2 assists per game. While this low number can partially be attributed to their extremely slow pace, it was also by design.

New York had the 4th highest isolation frequency in the league while also ranking just 23rd in passes per game. Randle and Barrett were required to consistently create their own offense.

While it may have worked during the regular season, it’s not the way to sustain long-term offensive success. In fact, the strategy failed in the playoffs when the Hawks focused their entire defense on Randle and he couldn’t overcome it.

The Knicks need to prioritize a more balanced attack if they want to put up points.

Against the Pacers, they recorded 26 assists compared to an amazingly low 3 turnovers. The starting lineup combined for 12 of those helpers while being responsible for just one giveaway. Every single member of the starters recorded an assist.

Immanuel Quickley continued to hone his passing skills as he racked up a game-high 7 dimes off the bench.

The New York Knicks should be able to continue their newfound winning ways once the regular season rolls around. While they may shift their identity to become more offensively focused, they will likely be better than ever as long as they can reach each of these goals.
