New York Knicks: Miles McBride is a shooter

Shooting is certainly baked into Miles McBride’s draft profile, but I’m not so sure people realize how good of a shooter he really is.

Miles McBride 3-point shooting: 46/111 — 41.4% — Assisted on 58.7% of makes

The 41.4 percent from three jumps out right away. It’s the unassisted percentage that hammers home just how good of a shooter he is.

What the unassisted threes tell us is just how many times McBride had to create his own long-range shot. It’s an indicator of shooting, ball-handling, and the ability to knock down difficult shots off the dribble.

There were a ton of shooters in this past draft. Many of them should thrive as catch-and-shoot options in the league. McBride can be more than that — he has legit go-to scoring potential.

McBride is coming into the league with hopes of being a legitmate, 2-way NBA point guard. We saw him run his team’s offense at West Virginia.

Even if McBride doesn’t take on any point guard responsibilities right away, he’s going to contribute with both his defense and his shooting. Those two attributes may get him on the court sooner rather than later.

There could be plenty of times this season where the New York Knicks reserve backcourt will be McBride alongside Immanuel Quickley. Shooters for days.

Look for McBride to show off his shooting chops any time he’s on the court.
