New York Knicks: Quentin Grimes is a leader

Quentin Grimes is someone who can show up in so many different areas of the game. Be it on offense or defense, you know he’ll be putting in effort wherever he can.

Quentin Grimes Win Shares: 6.1 — 5th in the NCAA last season

Win shares are somewhat of an all-inclusive stat used to show how much an individual player impacts the overall wins on their team. Basketball reference explains it as, “team and league-wide statistics and the sum of player win shares on a given team will be roughly equal to that team’s win total for the season.”

Quentin Grimes being 5th in all of NCAA Division 1 basketball is saying something.

The Top 5 were:

  1. Evan Mobley
  2. Luka Garza
  3. Drew Timme
  4. Corey Kispert
  5. Quentin Grimes

You have the #3 overall pick in Mobley, the Wooden Player of the Year in Garza, two players from the 31-1 national runner-up Gonzaga Bulldogs, one of whom (Kispert) was selected 15th overall by the Washington Wizards, and Quentin Grimes.

That’s just how impactful Quentin Grimes was as the leader of the Houston Cougars last season.

The actual calculations of win shares are pretty intricate, if you want to check out Basketball Reference’s explanation. Typically, the players who are near the top in win share totals make sense.

Quentin Grimes is going to find a way to leave his mark in his rookie season. He’s here to be the best asset to the team that he can possibly be.
