New York Knicks — February: A West Coast Story

Wednesday, February 2, 7:30 p.m. – vs Memphis

I’m almost shocked ESPN is televising this game because I can’t think of practically any other storyline than Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett facing off as young stars. Even then, it’s pretty random. I do like New York to defend the Garden because God knows they won’t be back for a while.

Knicks record: 29-23

Saturday, February 5, 8:30 p.m. – at Los Angeles Lakers

This game also comes during a tough stretch of matchups for an aging Lakers squad. However, they too will have three days until their next matchup, so it shouldn’t be used as an opportunity to rest players. It’s also a primetime game on ABC. LA ain’t losing this one.

Knicks record: 29-24

Monday, February 7, 9:00 p.m. – at Utah

Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert, Bojan Bogdanovic and Joe Ingles, the Jazz arguably have the best continuity in the NBA. You don’t often see a sizable chunk of players staying with a franchise, and that doesn’t even include Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson. Needless to say, Utah is the type of regular-season team that will win somewhere between 55 and 60 games. Road wins are tough to come by against them.

Knicks record: 29-25

Tuesday, February 8, 9:00 p.m. – at Denver

The Mile High City will welcome the New York Knicks to town who will get practically no chance at catching up to the altitude. That seriously could be a factor with no day off. There’s also a guy named Nikola Jokic who didn’t miss a regular-season game in a Nuggets uniform last season.

Knicks record: 29-26

Thursday, February 10, 10:00 p.m. – at Golden State

The Knicks’ west coast trip continues in the Bay Area against a Golden State team who would have just played at Utah on Wednesday. This Warriors team will be focused on the playoffs and might rest players in a somewhat meaningless game against an Eastern Conference opponent. The Knicks will fight hard to get back a win to stay in the playoff picture.

Knicks record: 30-26

Saturday, February 12, 5:00 p.m. – at Portland

New York will travel further north to take on the Trail Blazers and try to start up a short winning streak. With Carmelo Anthony gone, Portland’s offense might take a hit this season. Their bench is also nothing short of atrocious so even on the road the Knicks have a good chance at taking a second straight.

Knicks record: 31-26

Monday, February 14, 7:30 p.m. – vs Oklahoma City

12 days later New York will be welcomed home against a very young Thunder squad looking to make some noise. I wanted the Knicks to draft Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2018 but they didn’t and now can only worry about guarding him. He has a lot of good, young help, but unless the Thunder make a trade for another star, they’re still a few years away from being a really good team.

Knicks record: 32-26

Wednesday, February 16, 7:30 p.m. – vs Brooklyn

Who knows if Kyrie Irving will be able to suit up in the state of New York by now and with this being the last game before the NBA All-Star break for both sides, you could either see a bunch of guys resting or everyone playing. MSG will be absolutely electric for this Wednesday night showdown and I like the New York Knicks to ride their momentum into the All-Star weekend in Cleveland.

Knicks record: 33-26

Friday, February 25, 7:30 p.m. – vs Miami

A long break off from games keeps the Knicks at home against a tough Miami team I applauded back in January. With New York on such a hot streak, I like it to continue at what should be another sold-out Madison Square Garden on a Friday night in February. This is also a practically even matchup when the two play in New York, so I’ve got to give the home team the advantage.

Knicks record: 34-26

Sunday, February 27, 1:00 p.m. – vs Philadelphia

The first of two straight games against the 76ers will take place in New York and this winning streak isn’t about to stop now. It’s the longest of the season as far as I’ve called to this point and New York will want this win badly if they lost the first two against Philly as I called earlier in the season.

By this point in the season, I’m 99% sure some type of move will have been made, but I can’t forecast exactly what that will be so I have to go with the more stable team on their home floor.

Knicks record: 35-26
