The NY Knicks currently just have 19 players going into training camp because as of yesterday, they’ve released their late-season acquisition of Argentinian Point Guard, Luca Vildoza.
Since bringing him state-side, Vildoza hadn’t shown very much offensive or defensive capabilities and also had been dealing with some nagging injuries to boot (pun intended).
Luca had still been in a walking boot on his right foot due to an injury he incurred during the Knicks’ Summer League.
The man had more than enough opportunities to show what he was all about between playing for Argentina during the Olympics and a few showings during the summer, but the team decided they’d seen enough and cut ties.

This leaves the Knicks with one spot available on their 20-man roster going into the preseason and while they could very well leave it open and let the guys still on the team fight to make the 15-man Opening Night roster as well as the other remaining two-way spot, they could also opt to bring in some competition so no one gets too comfortable.
Going into the regular season, the team likely has 3 of the 5 spots on the 3rd unit available with rookies Miles McBride, Quentin Grimes, and Taj Gibson all but guaranteed a role on the team.
This pretty much leaves the 3rd string Small Forward, 3rd string Power Forward, and one two-way spot available being that rookie Jericho Sims has the other one.
Therefore, guys like Dwayne Bacon, Kevin Knox, Wayne Welden, and a few other younger guys all vying for the final few availabilities.
With a few storylines to pay attention to between now and the regular season beginning, this one may not be the sexiest but it’s equally as important.
They say competition creates innovation, so let’s see if the Knicks decide to bring in some new faces to help elevate the guys on the roster today to new heights.
