Should the NY Knicks target Thaddeus Young?

Not gonna lie, I’ve never even considered the Knicks possibly trading for Thaddeus Young, and for good reason.

Frankly, I’m not entirely too sure how he would fit on this team even if Obi Toppin didn’t exist.

Thad Young is a great talent and can bring some scoring and rebounding to any team he’s on but again, wouldn’t make any sense for the Knicks whatsoever.

This isn’t NBA 2K, you can’t just pick up stars and great role players and stuff them onto a team and win games.

Young can play a little Small Forward if a team wants to play big but those spots are occupied by RJ Barrett and Alec Burks who I’m sure most of us can agree are better for what the Knicks are trying to do on the wing.

He can also play a little bit of small-ball 5 if the team wants to play ‘5-out’ and play really small but the Knicks are absolutely stacked at the Center position with Mitchell Robinson, Nerlens Noel, Taj Gibson, and rookie Jericho Sims.

Now, where I feel Young is best suited is at the 4, but of course, that position is occupied by Julius Randle and Obi Toppin.

It’s hard enough finding time for Obi this upcoming season as I’ve projected that he’ll only average around 15 minutes per game when the season is said and done.

I’ve also written many articles trading Obi because I think the Knicks might be better off consolidating some pieces in a deal for an upgrade or two and instead signing a backup Power Forward who they could justify giving the scraps of minutes behind Julius.

Even if the Knicks dealt Obi elsewhere and also traded for Thad Young, the team would be right back at square one with the same issues they’re having with Obi as Young is a deserving enough talent for much more than just about 15 minutes per game.

The Knicks are in a great spot now so coming up with viable trade options is becoming harder and harder to do.
