Should the NY Knicks target Eric Gordon?

I wanna say that great minds think alike because I am no stranger to once thinking the Knicks could have targetted Eric Gordon via trade.

But in reality, there are only so many players available via trade in this league without a shadow of a doubt, so my mentioning Gordon’s name before as well as the author of this article doing so is no coincidence.

At one point, well before the offseason started I believed that Gordon could be a target of the Knicks’ as he could be viewed as a negative trade asset for Houston.

He’s 32-years-old and gets hurt a bit, Plus, he just re-signed with Houston prior to last season starting back when they thought they had a chance at retaining James Harden.

Since Harden was dealt to Brooklyn, it just makes sense for the Rockets to get rid of any veteran talent and expedite their rebuilding process.

The team’s new core should be on the same timeline as 2021’s 2nd overall pick Jalen Green.

Therefore, I figured maybe the Knicks could weaponize the $53 million they had in cap space this summer and help to absorb Gordon’s $18 million due this season while also receiving some draft compensation for doing so.

This was obviously well before the Knicks signed free agent, Evan Fournier whom I’m much happier with the Knicks getting for the same money as Gordon.

Similar to what I said in my introduction, Eric Gordon the player is great but just doesn’t fit the Knicks right now.

If there were any sort of long-term injury on the wing then MAYBE, but even so, taking on close to $60 million worth of salary over the next 3 years would be bad for business moving forward.

Hard pass.
