With the conclusion of one of the most successful seasons in the history of the franchise, members of the NY Knicks either won or were highly considered for several of the NBA’s 2021 awards.
Those who were in the running for an award included Derrick Rose for Sixth Man of the Year, Immanuel Quickley for Rookie of the Year, Leon Rose for Executive of the Year, and Julius Randle for Most Valuable Player. The winners were Tom Thibodeau for Coach of the Year, Quickley for All-Rookie Second Team, and Randle for Most Improved Player and All-NBA Second Team.
The Knicks playing competitive basketball all year long was itself amazing. The fact that they also were playing so well that people in the organization were recognized for their success was the icing on the cake. And today, I am here to tell you that there could be more awards in New York’s future.
Can the NY Knicks win more player awards?
Not only can we expect some of these players to compete again for the same award, but other Knicks bringing home some hardware has been widely predicted among the team’s fanbase. So, let’s go over which awards can be won and which Knickerbocker is most likely to be in the running for each honor.
Before we get started, I will not be considering any Knicks players for Rookie of the Year, the All-Rookie Teams, or MVP. Sure, it is technically possible a Knicks rookie can be honored with the first two awards, and Randle could win MVP.
But, it is extremely unlikely those players will be highly considered. In Randle’s case, the NY Knicks probably won’t finish atop the conference, a traditionally essential qualifier for MVP. As for our rooks, the playing time just isn’t going to be there without significant injury to the roster.
