Should the NY Knicks have brought back Carmelo Anthony?

I’ll be the first to say that I’m glad Melo ended up with the Lakers and I’m on their bandwagon this season.

That’s of course only if the Knicks don’t shock the world and have a legitimate chance at an NBA title this season.

When I heard the news that Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks had mutual interest, I got goosebumps.

I’ve been a fan of this team since birth but only really started following the sport back in 2010, so when the Knicks made the trade for Melo…arguably a top 5 player in the league at that time, my fandom went through the roof.

Melo single-handedly made it worthwhile to be a fan of this team for a lot of people.

He was the one who came here when no other big names wanted to take that chance and he’ll always hold a special place in my heart for doing so.

I don’t know where he would have fit into the team’s depth chart or what kind of role he’d have once here, but I couldn’t care less.

Melo would be back home where he belongs.

But then reality set in and I acknowledged that he picked the right spot in Los Angeles because, at 37 years of age, there’s definitely not a lot of gas left in the tank so he’s gotta choose where he spends the final few seasons of his career very carefully.

As long as he ended up on a team with legitimate title aspirations…AND NOT THE NETS, I’d have been happy for him.

Had he opted to stay with Portland or sign with a team in a similar position to where the Knicks are currently…it would have bummed me out because he could have easily chosen to come back to The Mecca.

Regardless, I’m riding with my guy heavy this year, and the second the Knicks get eliminated from the playoffs (if they do), it’s Lakers or Bust for me.
