New York Knicks Top-5 Shooters: #4 Kemba Walker

Coming in at #4 is the Bronx native, Kemba Walker.

Walker has a long history of being a tough-shot-maker. Interestingly enough, Walker’s 3-point shooting really didn’t start to take off until the 5th season of his career — the first time he shot over 33%.

One of the most compelling parts of the Kemba Walker signing is his ability to shoot. Walker will be replacing Elfrid Payton in the New York Knicks starting lineup who was a non-factor as a shooter.

The added floor-spacing with Kemba Walker in the lineup should do a lot to help the Knicks’ offensive engine run smoothly.

Kemba has consistently hovered between 35-40%  3-point shooting in recent years. Starting with 2016-17 and ending with last season, his percentages have been: 39.9%, 38.4%, 35.6%, 38.1%, 36.0%.

Last month, I wrote a player stats projections article for the entire New York Knicks roster and had Kemba Walker down for 37.1% from 3.

There’s no doubt Walker is going to take some difficult shots — he always has, and it’s going to affect his 3-point shooting numbers. We know Walker has a soft shooter’s touch. He has always been a fantastic free throw shooter and scorer at all 3 levels.

Walker can be streaky but when he’s hot, he’s going to take over games. I’d expect multiple games this season where Walker connects on five or six 3-pointers and finishes with a 30 piece.
