New York Knicks — Game 1 vs. The Boston Celtics

0. 18. . 7:30 PM ET. . Wednesday, Oct 20. 0. 27

It’s going to be a special home opener when the New York Knicks take on the Boston Celtics to kick off the season.

Already a classic Atlantic Division rivalry between two rival East Coast cities, this suddenly has some extra meaning to it due to the Knicks’ free agent signings.

New York’s most significant new acquisitions this offseason, Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier, were both members of the Boston Celtics last season.

Walker spent two seasons with Boston and Fournier was only there for the 2nd half of last season after being traded at the deadline. Both players look to be penciled in as starters for the New York Knicks for the season opener and will have extra motivation not just because it’s their Knicks debuts, but they’ll want to play well against their former team.

New York won 2/3 of their games against the Celtics last season. The only game they lost was the only time they faced a healthy Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, with the Celtics winning by 2.

It’s going scenes at Madison Square Garden on opening night and there will surely be some jitters from both teams.

The Celtics are looking to bring back their same core and a bolstered frontcourt to prove they haven’t fallen off in the East. Ultimately, I think these two teams will be very close in the standings.

New York may take a few games to work out the kinks of their new lineup.
