JJ Redick is keeping himself busy nowadays outside of basketball with his very popular podcast, “The Old Man and The Three”, but is likely to sign with a New York-based team if and when the time comes.

The Brooklyn-native is on the last legs of his basketball career but apparently would consider the Brooklyn Nets or the NY Knicks.

Redick mentions in a recent podcast episode:

"My focus right now is just hanging with my family and enjoying the offseason. And we’ll make a decision on next season — what team, what city, etc. — probably sometime in the next two or three months. But, you know, I would say, pretty much definitively, like, I won’t be in a training camp to start the season. That’s not gonna happen. So, you know, I’ll join a team at some point this season and finish the year and try to go get a chip."

Redick is a personal favorite player of mine and one who I’ve written many articles about the Knicks hypothetically trading for last season.

Considering we knew he was up for grabs at the deadline, I was shocked that the Knicks didn’t make a run at acquiring him.

Should the Knicks consider signing JJ Redick?

The team most certainly could have used his leadership, playoff experience, and shooting as a solid piece off the bench.

Although he had asked Pelicans VP of Basketball Operations, David Griffin, to trade him as close to his home in Brooklyn as possible, Griffin instead moved him even further away than he was in New Orleans down to Dallas.

New Orleans shipped off Redick and Nicolo Melli to the Mavericks in exchange for James Johnson, Wes Iwundu, and a second-round pick.

Redick was very vocal about his distaste for Griffin after the deal went down as he had promised JJ that he’d be moved to a team in the North East.

The Knicks’ roster looks all but set at this point, as does Redick’s likely preferred destination, the Brooklyn Nets.

But if I had to guess, Redick is waiting for either of the two New York teams to perhaps incur some injuries and that will be the deciding factor for him.

What do you think, Knicks fans?

Would you want JJ Redick on the Knicks?
