It’s time to make some bold predictions for the NY Knicks for next season.
It appears the dust has settled on major moves for this offseason (We think…). Ink is drying on new contracts. Rookies and hopefuls have left Las Vegas. The schedules have been released.
It’s high time to boldly (read: blindly) put some stakes in the ground about what next season will bring.
Fortune favors the bold. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Gotta risk it for the biscuit.
When we say bold, we mean BOLD.
Which players will thrive? Which players will leave? But more important, will there be wiiiiiiiiiiins?
(If you follow this Twitter account, that reference was for you.)
The Knicks had a fantastic season last year by all measures. Players like RJ Barrett and Julius Randle improved. Rookies like Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin saw meaningful playoff minutes. Veterans helped the team win. All this without mortgaging future picks or cap space.
But success just breeds the desire for more success, and the Knicks now stand on the precipice of something bigger. Fans (and the front office, I would imagine) are arguing heavily about what the future holds for the franchise.
The Knicks seem content to continue developing the core of Barrett and Randle while surrounding them with smart, seasoned vets (including resigning several key pieces) on team-friendly deals. The front office also surprised most of us by actually drafting four rookies.
At the same time, the team could also decide to sell high on their assets and make a play for a superstar right now should one or more become available to them.
I’m placing risky bets on the three predictions that follow.
