New York Knicks Summer League Grades: Jericho Sims

It could have been very easy to overlook the skill and ability of Jericho Sims as an effective NBA center due to the incredibly satisfying monster dunks he is prone to pull off. We were craving those slams and thankfully got plenty of them, but we also got so much more out of the 58th overall pick.

Sims made the type of impact you would expect out of a modern-day NBA big-man right away. Although he spent fours year at the University of Texas and was the full-time starter in his Junior and Senior campaigns, Sims was sort of seen as a raw prospect by those who profiled him following the Knicks’ selection of him. However, as stated he very quickly showed he can do everything you would want from him.

After just two weeks of Summer League play it is crazy to think Sims nearly went undrafted. For New York, he was incredibly efficient, rebounded well, set fantastic screens, and managed to find himself consistently in the right place on both sides of the floor.

The game in which Sims leaped into our hearts was also his best game of Summer league: a 12 point, 8 rebounds, and 1 block performance in which he went a perfect 6-6 on the floor. Sims didn’t even miss a field goal until his third game, where he attempted a 3-pointer. If Sims ever connects on a deep ball, Knicks Twitter might implode. I’m looking forward to a future filled with Jericho Jams and hopefully some treys.
