New York Knicks: Mitchell Robinson Stats Projection 2021-22

  • 65 Games Played
  • 28.5 Minutes Per Game
  • 10.6 Points Per Game
  • 11.0 Rebounds Per Game
  • 0.4 Assists Per Game
  • 1.9 Blocks Per Game
  • 1.3 Steals Per Game

This is going to be a fun year for Mitchell Robinson.

Now entering his 4th season and the final year of his rookie contract, Robinson took some big steps forward in his game that didn’t always show up in his individual stats.

Ariel Pacheco, who writes for The Strickland, had a great thread of video clips and analysis detailing Mitchell Robinson’s impact.

Robinson’s added strength, discipline, and overall awareness all showed on the court last season, a season which was unfortunately derailed by injuries.

Robinson played in 61 out of 66 possible games in 2018-19, so I think 65/82 games is a fair projection.

Robinson led the league in box-outs per game when he was healthy last season and I see a nice uptick in points per game and rebounds per game. Now he gets to play with Walker – Barrett- Fournier on the perimeter?

He has a few different playmakers now and there are going to be more than a few Robinson alley-oop dunks this season. His ability to physically match some of the best centers in the league and be a wrecking ball in the pain was sorely missed in the playoffs. The gravity he brings as a flailing colossus when he crashes to the rim is going to be a key ingredient in the Knicks’ scheme on offense.

This is a huge year for him to prove that he’s an important long-term piece,  and if he’s healthy, expect him to finish the season with some of the top efficiency, rebounding, and defensive metrics of any big man in the NBA.
