New York Knicks 5 Key Games: Opening Night vs. Boston Celtics

Opening night has got to be on here, right?

New York vs. Boston may be a timeless rivalry, but Knicks-Celtics hasn’t had much drama to it lately. The two teams were close in the standings this past season but there really hasn’t been much fire between these two franchises since the Carmelo Anthony era of New York Knicks basketball.

That’s about to change.

The Knicks’ biggest offseason acquisitions, Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier, were both members of the Boston Celtics last season. They acquired Fournier at the trade deadline but their season didn’t go quite as planned.

While the core duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown is still there, it’s been a lot of reshuffling in Boston. From Brad Stevens relinquishing his head coaching duties and jumping up to general manager, to some big changes to the supporting cast, the Boston Celtics want to get back to where they were in 2019-20 when made to the Eastern Conference Finals.

For the Knicks, this is a chance to make a statement. You know both Fournier and Walker will relish a chance to open the season against their former team.

The New York Knicks can set the tone for the season with a win at Madison Square Garden over their Atlantic Division rivals, and it’s always nice to have bragging rights in the Boston-New York rivarly.

Next on this list is another Atlantic Division rival.
