Should the NY Knicks have selected Cam Thomas in the 2021 NBA Draft?
I’ll be the first to admit that I was very high on Quentin Grimes coming into this draft and when I found out that the team was also equally as high shortly before draft night, I was ecstatic.
Another player I liked but wasn’t personally as high on, but I knew the Knicks were, was LSU’s, Cam Thomas.
And so what if I liked Grimes better than Thomas…I’m not a GM so I shouldn’t feel bad for potentially getting this pick wrong.
When the Knicks were set to pick at 21, I really just didn’t like a lot of the names left on the board that were projected to go in that vicinity.
I was on the side of trading down and I’m happy they did.
There were names that were set to go a little bit later than 21 such as Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride, and of course Cam Thomas who I liked but I thought would be a reach at the 21st pick.
So when the trade down happened, I couldn’t have been happier.
Grimes so far has been underwhelming in pretty much every area aside from his defense.
Cam Thomas has been quite the opposite.

Coming out of college, we knew he was a bucket-getter and didn’t provide much of anything else.
Now, in the Summer League so far, he’s exactly what was advertised. Averaging 23.3 points per game and not a whole lot else.
Again, I hope this ages poorly and I feel stupid for having written any of this, but Cam Thomas looks special.
And of all teams…for Brooklyn to get their grubby paws on him…it’s just unfair.
They traded their entire future for James Harden and with the little bit of draft capital they still had…they get a stud like Cam Thomas.
