The NY Knicks’ offseason is looking like it’s trending towards being a rousing success, but it could have looked a bit different. After not being prioritized by the Miami Heat in free agency due to the pursuit of veteran point guard Kyle Lowry, Kendrick Nunn was left vulnerable to other suitors this summer. This resulted in Nunn heading towards the bright lights of Los Angeles to challenge for a title alongside the star-studded cast assembled by the Lakers.

NY Knicks: Kendrick Nunn could regret his decision

Before he officially headed to Tinseltown, he was linked with New York as they made clear their intentions to flesh out their depth at the point-guard spot. The third-year guard surely would have been an asset to a team that struggled to find consistency for parts of last season, averaging 14.6 points across 56 games in 2020-2021, but his desire to play elsewhere could serve as a blessing in disguise for the Knicks.

With Nunn snubbing more money from New York in favor of linking up with the new-look Lakers, the Knicks made other arrangements, securing the services of Evan Fournier and performing a sensational swoop for Kemba Walker. Now, after the dust has settled, New York certainly won’t have any hard feelings about missing out on Kendrick Nunn. However, the point guard may be the one harboring regret in the near future.

Albeit, the prospect of playing alongside world-renowned talent such as LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook surely has its advantages, such as veteran leadership to emulate and learn from. Additionally, there’s the added benefit of a softened championship path which has proven to be a deciding factor for free agents in recent seasons. Still, Nunn will be worse off for packing his bags for L.A. in lieu of the Big Apple and there are three, distinct reasons why.
