NY Knicks’ sophomore Obi Toppin should learn a lot from Evan Fournier

Speaking of Toppin, the 23-year old also stands to benefit from the addition of Fournier as he enters his sophomore season.

Toppin works best when other players set him up, using his combination of otherworldly athleticism and elite finishing ability to somehow funnel the ball into the hoop.

It often resulted in highlight plays, including his momentum-shifting dunk in game 2 of the playoffs.

However, he struggled to get a lot of looks due to the lack of passing talent around him.

Julius Randle led the Knicks in assists, but Toppin was hardly ever on the floor with the All-Star so he couldn’t benefit from his improved playmaking ability.

Instead, he had to rely on other members of the team to set him up. Derrick Rose ended up establishing a solid connection with him, but there wasn’t much outside of that.

Fournier has steadily increased his playmaking abilities, averaging a respectable 4.0 assists per 36 minutes since 2018.

While in Orlando, he established a solid rapport with dunking aficionado Aaron Gordon.

Watching him set up the high-flying forward, it’s not hard to imagine him doing the same with Toppin.

The two should be able to develop chemistry on the court rather quickly, providing an explosive boost to the Knicks’ offense.
