Should the NY Knicks make a trade for Myles Turner?

So this one is a bit bolder of an assumption as the Knicks just paid Nerlens Noel a big, fat salary in comparison to what most centers of a similar skill set are making these days.

But that’s the reason for the trade within itself.

Mitchell Robinson is due for a contract extension this season, so why pay your backup a starter’s salary?

Because Mitch’s future with the team is in question.

We just explored how Myles Turner would fit on the Knicks here in a recent article and the bulk of the fanbase loves the idea of him joining the squad.

If I had to guess, this kind of trade is more likely to happen by next season’s deadline rather than before the season begins, but what do I know?

Reason being that Mitch is still rehabbing his foot injury and he looks to have had a setback in his recovery as he’s still been seen wearing a boot.

This is after there was speculation that he could have possibly returned during the playoff series against the Hawks.

I’d have to imagine that the Knicks paid Nerlens Noel as an insurance policy.

He’s probably going to have to start this season as the starting center until Mitch is back to full health.

Once Mitch does come back, they’ll get him back to 100% health and start shopping him around.

While they could look to move him in exchange for an upgrade at point guard or on the wing, perhaps a Myles Turner trade could make the most sense for both teams.

The Pacers are well over the luxury tax and surely will want to shed some salary at some point.

A trade for Turner would likely mean the end of Noel’s time as a Knick as well, as it wouldn’t make sense to keep both on the roster so perhaps this could be a 3-team trade in the future.
