The New York Knicks may not be done in free agency just yet.

SNY’s Ian Begley has reported that NY may be looking into some of the remaining point guard options, with Reggie Jackson and Dennis Schroder being the names to watch. New York appears to be “active” in their pursuit of a point guard.

Knicks Rumors: Would Reggie Jackson or Dennis Schroder make sense?

The Knicks have already filled up a lot of their roster.

New York’s biggest and only new acquisition was Evan Fournier, who they inked to a 4-year deal with a team option with the third year. They also re-signed Alec Burks, Derrick Rose, and Nerlens Noel to 3 year deals ‚— alll with options on the 3rd year.

While some may think New York is done spending, there are valid questions that still remain at point guard.

Derrick Rose was nothing short of spectacular last season, but he’s clearly best suited in a 6th-man type of role. No one, from Leon Rose, to Tom Thibodeau, to Derrick Rose himself wants Derrick Rose to be playing 35 minutes per game as the team’s starting point guard.

If anything, the New York Knicks are still exploring the addition of someone to take over Elfrid Payton’s role as a starting point guard who can set the tone. The options remaining appear to be Reggie Jackson and Dennis Schroder.

NY was reportedly in on Kendrick Nunn, who ultimately decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.

For both Jackson and Schroder, it’s all about a short-term deal. They could be in a good position to strike a deal.

Schroder has reportedly been looking for a lucrative, long-term deal, but the market has dried up. A balooned 1+1 deal may be the only thing on the table for either Schroder or Jackson, unless they decide to take less and join one of the championship contending teams.

The Knicks actually have a chunk of change left to offer — Derrick Rose’s bird rights, along with Taj Gibson’s deal not counting against the cap, give NY some money to offer. Certainly more thanmost teams, although they still have to be creative.

Adding a talent like Schroder or Jackson could prove to be the right move for New York. As the roster sits right now, they’ll have to run players like Immanuel Quickley, Miles McBride, and Luca Vildoza at point guard. If Derrick Rose were to get injured, their point guard options and overall guard depth would be very slim.

Stay tuned, New York could strike a new deal sooner rather than later.
