New York Knicks — Grading the pick: Miles McBride

New York Knicks — Grading Miles McBride’s value: A
It’s pretty easy to see the Knicks had McBride pretty high on their end-of-1st round board.
I detailed what I think happened in my Quentin Grimes draft grade article.
Essentially, I believe the Knicks saw how many ball-handling guards that had first-round grades were available: The Bones Hylands, Cam Thomases, Jaden Springers – and they figured they should snag the 3&D Grimes at 25, with confidence that a ball-handler would be available when they were on the clock in the 2nd round.
Originally, McBride was one of my favorite targets at 32. He was 29th on my board.
Here’s how Miles McBride stacked up on some top draft analyst’s draft boards:
The Athletic (Sam Vecenie) — 22nd
The Ringer (Kevin O’Connor) — 30th
Bleacher Report (Jonathan Wasserman) —18th
Deuce McBride was a riser later in the draft process, and New York got some tremendous value by adding the feisty young guard with pick 36.
He was a big-time college player and I’m pretty confident he has the ability to not only translate into a starting NBA guard, he could blossom into a really great 2-way player.
His 6’8 wingspan and commitment to multiple areas of the game could see him in New York’s lineup sooner rather than later. They got fantastic value snagging him in the 2nd round.
