NY Knicks: Ranking the team’s most tradable assets
NY Knicks tradeable asset #2: Mitchell Robinson
It took me a very long time to determine if I wanted to rank Mitch first or second. With that being said, it took the elephant in the room that helped me make my decision. Injuries. Entering his third NBA season many Knicks fans were hopeful to see Robinson make major improvements to his limited yet impressive NBA skillset.
We’re still waiting for him to add a mid-range jumper and in general, see him spread the floor on the offensive end. In his 31 games played throughout the 2021 season, Mitch’s defensive stats were still very above average with 1.5 blocks per game, 1.1 steals per game, and a defensive rating of 104.5; and while the offense didn’t seem like it was changing all that much, it didn’t get its full set of opportunities to do so with Robinson suffering from fractures in both his hand and foot.
The center out of New Orleans is very capable of having a big impact on a team for a long time and as he enters the final year of his deal, he also has to prove that 1) he can stay healthy and 2) his game includes some sort of diversity.
If the Knicks were to contact a team like the Wizards for Beal, I feel like Mitch could be a primary piece in the trade due to the Wizards’ struggles at the center position last year due to Thomas Bryant tearing his ACL. While I still would love to see what the future holds with Mitchell Robinson in a Knicks uniform, I would not be upset to see him traded for an important piece in return.
