NY Knicks – Draft prospects with pick #58: Daishen Nix

Player comp:  Poor man’s Marcus Smart

A big, burly, point guard for the G League Ignite, Daishen Nix has a punishing style of play going against opposing guards. Has great passing vision, but at 6’4 might play more of the two in the NBA. He doesn’t have a great dribble drive or creation ability but his shooting and size might carry him yet.

We as NBA fans and scouts still don’t fully know how the Draft prospects of the G-League Ignite are going to react to the NBA game. Will it be easier? Harder? Will the backups in for Ignite get enough playing time? Will they show more with more minutes, or less?

This trailblazing from incoming rookies like Jalen Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Isaiah Todd, and Nix is going to be an interesting subplot for the 2021-2022 season, but on the off chance that they all have something more substantial in the bag, taking one of them with the 58th pick is a clear buy-low sell-high opportunity.

Nix brings some of that James Harden/Eric Gordon/Marcus Smart energy to the guard position. Built like a fire hydrant, and with deceptive craftiness in the half court  to go along with that punishing strength.

He’s not very fast, so it’s unclear what his position will be in the NBA, but his shooting and passing will keep him valuable for a while.

Really, at pick 58 you’re just taking swings on guys who’ll hopefully have NBA careers.  Nix has played against NBA-caliber talent before and averaged 9-5-5. So, at least there’s that.
