Should the NY Knicks trade Kevin Knox during the 2021 NBA Draft?

Let’s get the most obvious player out of the way right off the bat.

Kevin Knox has likely played his last game as a Knick, and as sad as it would be to see him go, I’d much rather he go to a team where he could actually get some playing time.

We’ll always remember how promising his future seemed after he took the Summer League by storm.

After a rookie season where he finished with 12.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, we had all thought the Knicks found a gem that they could build the future of the team around.

Since then, his production has absolutely fallen off a cliff, to say the least.

I think that a change of scenery in a market without the bright lights New York brings could help to turn his career around.

The fact that he’s entering his 4th professional NBA season and still hasn’t even turned 22 years old could entice a team to take a shot on a reclamation project.

He’s a low-risk, high-reward player at this point.

A trade I believe could make sense would be something like this:

The reason why the Spurs do this trade is simple…they’re losing a lot of their veteran players to free agency this offseason.

In fact, they’re losing 3 key players that split time at either forward position in DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, and Trey Lyles.

Last time I checked, Kevin Knox fancies himself as a bit of a combo-forward nowadays and could be walking into a situation where he could get some actual playing time.

Coach Pop is arguably the best NBA coach to ever grace the sport, so if anyone can turn Knox’s career around, it’s him.

I think if the Spurs were in love with a player that was selected ahead of them, might as well give ‘Pop’ a few more cracks at the plate as he’s proven so many times in the last 20 years that he could find talent later on in drafts.

Tony Parker was the 28th pick, Manu was the 57th, Derrick White was the 29th, and Dejounte Murray was the 29th pick as well.

The Knicks also move up from 58 to 41, which could also be paired with pick 32 in an attempt to get back into the late first round with ease.
