The New York Knicks are a likely landing spot for Lonzo Ball
With any Ball brother rumor, there will be some mention of their father, LaVar Ball.
That’s where a lot of the Lonzo to New York rumors began. The New York Post’s Marc Berman wrote just about a month ago:
"“Leon Rose knows Lavar Ball from their past when CAA repped the family. The father’s eccentricities are not an issue. Sources believe Lavar, a former tight end on the Jets’ practice squad, wants all his sons on Broadway, and the Knicks are on Lonzo’s radar.”"
The last part about all of the Ball brothers teaming up in New York may be far-fetched, but the eldest son Lonzo’s restricted free agency definitely offers a strong possibility of winding up in NYC.
Although the New Orleans Pelicans have the option to match any potential Lonzo offer, the language, or lack thereof, on Lonzo’s end, hasn’t indicated any desire to return.
Really, Lonzo hasn’t made any strong comments himself, which isn’t unusual for an impending free agent. The reports, however, have consistently linked him to bigger market franchises, including the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and the New York Knicks.
Of those teams, New York has the strongest chance to sign because they have by far the most cap space of those teams mentioned. They also have a clear need for a perimeter player who is comfortable with the ball in their hands.
Lonzo Ball is going to cost a lot of that cap space. Is he near the top of New York’s wishlist?
