The NY Knicks might already have this year’s starting Point Guard on the roster

Derrick Rose – As I mentioned in the previous slide, if the Knicks end up drafting a point guard, they’re not starting him.

A veteran will start on day one and that’s for certain.

If the Knicks are dead set on retaining Derrick Rose, and they also draft a point guard in this year’s draft…that’s it.

Your 2021-22 point guards going into the season will likely be Derrick Rose starting with whichever rookie is selected and Luca Vildoza splitting time as the backups.

Rose really shouldn’t play much more than 20-25 minutes per night, so the backups will get a decent amount of burn nightly.

Luca Vildoza – Similar to what I just wrote on Derrick Rose…Luca could instead be the day 1 starter with Derrick Rose and a rookie backing him up.

It’s pretty unlikely seeing how he’s basically viewed as a rookie, but if he impresses during the Olympics and onward, perhaps Thibs gives him a shot to start.

He didn’t come to the Knicks to be the 3rd string guy, and even though that may just be what he ends up being, he’ll make it a competition for the other options at the very least.
