NY Knicks: Nerlens Noel could be a part of the trade

A recent report from SNY’s Ian Begley stated that Cleveland may desire a veteran in any trade revolving around Sexton. This, along with the idea that the Cavs may be one of the teams interested in Noel in free agency, suggested here by Alexander Wilson at Empire Sports Media, got me thinking about a potential sign-and-trade deal that looks like this:

The Cavaliers would be getting one of the NY Knicks first round picks instead of two in this trade scenario. In my opinion, when adding Noel into the mix, New York unloading both of their FRP this year would be both unwise and a bit too much for what they are getting back. This is why they instead would be parting with their late SRP instead.

As mentioned, Cleveland has had interest in obtaining Knox and they do so here. Knox would be another young player for the team to gamble on developing as they rebuild. And finally, they of course would be getting Noel on a long-term deal. Pairing Noel with the also defensively elite Jarrett Allen would provide the Cavs with punishing rim protection and insurance at the center position.

The NY Knicks get their man in Sexton while also adding the versatile wing Taurean Prince. Prince is a quality 3-and-D player who can play both forward positions. He’s also an underrated scoring threat and rebounder, in my opinion. The Knicks can definitely use more shooting and perimeter defense, making Prince a perfect fit. At just $13 million next season, Prince is also an expiring contract, which is important for a Knicks team focused on their current and future cap space. Lastly, NY hangs onto Toppin, who they can continue to develop or use in a different future trade.
