NY Knicks: Is Nerlens Noel the key to a Collin Sexton trade?
By James Ryder
As the NY Knicks look to make moves in the offseason to improve the roster, one name that has been hot in the rumor mill is Collin Sexton.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to ship off Sexton in favor of going forward with Darius Garland at point guard. The 22-year-old is coming off of an all-star caliber season in which he averaged 24 points per game. New York is severely lacking that type of scoring, as well as elite play at the guard position.
Dealing for Sexton for many has become a no-brainer, especially when considering the rumored price of admission. Varying reports have said that some combination of Kevin Knox, Obi Toppin, and the 19th and 21st overall picks in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft would get the deal done. This is a package that is more than appealing and could very well happen.
However, when considering a few other reports out there, maybe the missing piece to a Knicks-Sexton trade is a player who is an impending New York free agent.
NY Knicks: Could Nerlens Noel be involved in a Sexton trade?
Enter Nerlens Noel. The 8-year NBA center just had a career year, starting in 41 games for the Knicks. His defense was pivotal for the team’s playoff run, as he provided great minutes in replacement of the injured Mitchell Robinson.
Due to this, Noel will have many suitors this summer. The journeyman can garner a multi-year deal, one that may even provide him the opportunity to be an everyday starter. Therefore, it looks like the Knicks will likely be seeing Noel move on to greener (money-wise) pastures. But, maybe the Knicks can help navigate Noel in a direction that is still beneficial to NY while securing a bag for the big man.
