NY Knicks: 3 Under-the-Radar Trade Targets This Offseason
NY Knicks Under-The-Radar Target #1 – Marvin Bagley III
Unlike the other two players on this list, this is not a wing for the Knicks to add more shooting.
The Knicks watched Nerlens Noel overperform this season, and he is probably set to get over $10 million annually on his next contract.
The Knicks could decide not to pay this and trade for Bagley.
One might expect Bagley’s value to be high as he was the 2018 2nd overall pick, but he has just not turned out how the Kings had hoped.
Bagley has dealt with injuries and is very unhappy in Sacramento, which has tanked his value.
The Detroit Pistons turned down a Bagley for Saben Lee swap at the Trade Deadline.
Lee, the 19th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has been a solid player for Detroit, but to be in a swap for a guy picked 2nd just three years ago is pretty shocking.
The Knicks can buy extremely low on Bagley and trust in Tom Thibodeau to help turn him around while also being the first good coach Bagley’s had since having Coach K back at Duke.
The Kings’ big man could also help the Knicks spread the floor when Robinson is off the court.
Bagley will free the paint up for players to go one-on-one when driving, and if a double team happens, the Knicks would have 4 capable shooters on the court to kick the ball out to and find the open man.
Bagley has shown promise with averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds as a career 50% field goal shooter and a 34% shooter from 3.
He is only 22 years old, younger than Obi Toppin. Though he would probably be the backup center, the Knicks will hope he can reach at least some of the potential he had coming into the NBA.
